- Implementation of GeM in UTs
- Bharat-Net is the networking project to provide connectivity infrastructure connecting all Blocks to Village Panchayats. This project was implemented by M/s. Bharat Broadband Network Ltd. (BBNL), a Govt. of India Undertaking. The Government Offices below to Village Panchayats are connected through the connectivity established by BBNL. All Village Panchayats at this U.T. are connected via Bharat-Net. Further, through the Bharat-Net infrastructure, 30 villages are provided with Wi-Fi connectivity. Though Bharat-Net established at all Village Panchayats of Puducherry and Karaikal Districts, issues pertaining to maintenance of infrastructure are not addressed properly by the Implementing Agency M/s. BBNL, which leads to break in connectivity / service.
- Presently, this U.T. is provided with National Knowledge Network (NKN) with 1 Gbps bandwidth. The NKN Point of Presence (PoP) has been setup by National Informatics Centere at State level. The PSWAN network established covering all the Districts across the U.T. providing connectivity with internet access through this 1 Gbps NKN infrastructure. All the users across all Departments of the U.T. of Puducherry are using the internet through NKN. The users at Karaikal District are connected via only 8 Mbps leased line which causes heavy network congestion leading to slow response to internet usage. If the NKN is extended to Karaikal District directly, this bottleneck will be resolved, for which 1 Gbps bandwidth through NKN is required to Karaikal District.
- GeM is implemented in this U.T. effectively. Procurements are effected using GeM portal. Necessary instructions have been given to all Govt. Departments / Organisations / Undertakings to procure the items through GeM. As on 05.02.2019, 202 Sellers have transacted and items procured to a tune of Rs.5.5 crores.
